We are Tom & David: retired educators, travel partners for over three decades, and married for almost 34 years. During that time, we worked at the same school, different schools at times, and managed to find enough weekends, school breaks, and summer vacations to build a 4000 square foot timber frame house by hand in the rolling hills of New Hampshire.
David was born and raised in India as the son of Baptist missionaries. Travel has been a part of his life since birth. Tom was born in southeast Michigan. Other than family vacations in his family's station wagon, he really began to travel while on foreign study as a junior in college and hasn't looked back since--including a four-year stint as a flight attendant in his 20s.
Together, we've traveled to over thirty countries on six continents. After Tom retired, we bought a 30-foot Airstream and toured the United States for 14 months, visiting every National Park in the lower 48, the Virgin Islands, and Hawaii. After visiting South Asia, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific, we set our sights on our next adventure: a world cruise.
Except, we couldn't find one that fit the bill. Since we built a house from the ground up, we thought we would DIY a world cruise in order to get what we really wanted: a massive number of ports. So, we researched, we mapped, we graphed, and we dreamed. In the end, we linked together a series of over a dozen cruises that spanned the globe.
This is not your typical "world cruise." There are gaps between cruises, some short (one day), some long (a month). In some cases we won't need to change ports between cruises (we'll be seeing a lot of Southampton). In others, we will fly to catch up to the next ship--short hops throughout Europe and long haul flights, as well.
We'll miss out on some things about a traditional world cruise--staying in one cabin, unpacking once, making friends that will stick with us the whole time, working with one set of crew members. We'll gain some things not typically found on world cruises--more ports, more adventures, more friends.
Whether you're family, an old friend, or simply someone who stumbled onto this page, pull up a chair and pour your favorite beverage--ours will be a gin & tonic. We're glad you're here, and we hope you'll stick around for the ride.
